Id Software Launches QuakeCon with Surprise Heretic + Hexen Bundle

One year after the surprise launch of Doom and Doom II, id Software and Nightdive have repeated the move with two fantasy classics. Heretic and Hexen have been bundled together and updated with performance improvements, an enhanced soundtrack by Andrew Hulshult, local and online multiplayer, built-in mod support, and more.

The bundle includes the original trio of games: Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Hexen: Beyond Heretic, and the Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel expansion. On top of that are two brand new episodes created in collaboration between staff at id Software and Nightdive Studios: Heretic: Faith Renewed and Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur. Together the package offers 117 campaign maps and 120 deathmatch maps, giving fans plenty to dig into.
Enhancements cover support for 4K resolutions, widescreen displays, and frame rates up to 120 fps. There is also controller support, bug fixes, and a game balance toggle that lets players switch between original and enhanced gameplay.

Accessibility updates include improved legibility, contrast and FX adjustments, text-to-speech features, and a Vault mode containing concept art and other assets from the original releases. Players can also choose between the new soundtrack or the classic originals.
